Rooted in craft. Sourced with care.
The Roots of Heritage is a family-run shop based in Ontario, started by a mom who believed the world's best-made things often come from the smallest workshops.
Handwoven jute, hand-stitched quilts, carved wood and hand-painted boxes are made by people with generations of skill, but most of them never reach shoppers in Canada or anywhere else. We wanted to change that.
How we source
We buy directly from small, family-run workshops and independent local makers. No big factories, no long chain of middlemen. That means your purchase turns into real, steady business for the people who made it, and you get a piece with a genuine story behind it.
Our first collection comes from artisans in Bangladesh, home to some of the finest jute and kantha work in the world. We're now building relationships with makers in other countries too, so expect new regions and new crafts over time.
Why natural materials
Most of what we carry is made from jute, cotton, silk, wood and shell. These are renewable, biodegradable materials that get better with age, a quiet alternative to mass-produced plastic decor.
Why handmade matters
Nothing here comes off an assembly line. You'll see small differences in weave, colour and stitching from one piece to the next. That's the point. Each one carries the hands that made it.
Come say hi
You'll find us at local markets and pop-ups around Ontario, where you can see and touch everything in person. Follow along on Instagram and Facebook for new arrivals and market dates.
